GreySave Greyhound Adoption is a
greyhound adoption and support group in Southern California. We get former racing
and otherwise unwanted greyhounds and adopt them into loving homes
in Los Angeles, Orange County, Ventura County, San Bernardino County, and
Santa Barbara County. Whether you're in Long Beach, Ontario, Anaheim, La Crescenta, Huntington Beach, or Hollywood, or just about anywhere in greater Los Angeles, we have foster dogs and adoption reps near you. Refresh your browser to see the most recent arrivals.
Remembering Jeff Brookhart
Long-time greyhound adoption volunteer Jeff Brookhart will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was known in both the GreySave and Fast Friends groups as a tireless worker and a friendly, joking, optimistic guy who dearly loved greyhounds. Jeff was young in mind, spirit, and years, but his body couldn't keep up. After valiantly fighting multiple illnesses, he passed over on December 5. He is survived by his wife, Tammy. Tammy asks that those who wish to send flowers instead make a donation to either GreySave or Fast Friends. If you wish to donate to GreySave's Jeff Brookhart Memorial Fund, please use the GreySave Donation submission form here. Fill out your contact info, click Submit, and then click Donate to use PayPal to make a donation. Please write in the Comments section, "For the Jeff Brookhart Memorial Fund."
You may also mail a donation to us at: GreySave Donations, P.O. Box 632, La Canada, CA 91012-0632. We are all volunteers, so every dime collected will go to getting and placing greyhounds in loving homes--we think just as Jeff would have wanted.
Fourteen greyhounds came to GreySave on November 23: Abby, Angel, Burberry, Derek, Greg, Libra, McRib, Mork, Morris, Sally, Sherbet, Talia, Toby, and Trapper. They're settling into their foster homes now. You can read more about them near the bottom of the Adoptables page. Mork has a broken leg and is in the Medical Hold section at the bottom of the Adoptables page. We'll add their profiles to the Adoptables page as their pet personalities emerge. You can see how their day goes from the time we get them from the track at The Last Lap.
GreySave Greyhounds Featured at the San Bernardino County Museum
See the article in the San Bernardino Sun which reports that, at the museum's Dog Day on November 9, "rescued Greyhounds from GreySave were the big draw, said Jolene Redvale, the museum’s curator of education." (Right: kids hypnotized into continual petting by volunteer Artemis Jeffers of GreySave)
Are You Ready to Adopt a Dog?
Before you decide that a greyhound is the right dog for you, you need to decide if a dog is the right new addition to your family. Click on this link to get a 23-page PDF document produced by The Gryphon Press: The Are You Ready for a Dog Kit. It includes check lists, a Readiness Quiz for Parents and another one for kids (both with answers), a Contract that the family can sign together to commit to what it takes to keep a dog happy and healthy, info on finding the right dog for you, and a number of other items.
Why Always on a Leash?
It’s beautiful to watch a Greyhound run, so why does GreySave join most Greyhound adoption groups in having a “never off leash in an unenclosed area” policy? These groups have carefully thought through this policy and based it on experience with thousands and thousands of adopted Greyhounds. Here are some of the reasons behind it.
