CambridgeCambridge -- Adopted and living in Los Angeles--Silver Lake
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Cambridge is a lovely, petite, feminine grey. She holds her own with her two greyhound housemates and sticks up for herself. She loves walks and car rides. Squeaky toys are still a mystery. Chews are the best, and she looks to her male housemate to give up his pillow when she wants it. Cambridge thrives on a quiet environment and likes to know what to expect. She is a bit skittish about some new experiences, but she is learning to follow the lead of her greyhound housemates. She might do well as any only dog, if her people were close by to give her a period of support. She is loving by nature and it’s a delight to see her personality emerge as her confidence grows and she settles into her new life.

HarvardHarvard -- Adopted and living in Whittier
Age: 5 Sex: M Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Harvard is a very calm, well-mannered beauty who looks at you with love through the brindle patch around one eye. He is curious about his new surroundings, but is not afraid of them. He loves to be petted and spoken to. He knows the word "No" and will go to his bed to think about his misdeed, (usually minor, like walking off with a stray sock). He comes when his name is called. Although sometimes it looks like he's running away, he is really trying to find a place to turn around and come back. He is an excellent walker and does not pull on his leash. He matches your pace and walks in an almost straight line, which means he does not try to chase after cats. He sometimes runs around the house and yard with the other greyhounds, but prefers to stay close to his human. He is finally picking up toys and is just figuring out how to play.

JulliardJulliard -- Adopted and living in Whittier
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Julliard is just discovering the joys of her new life. Her curiosity knows no bounds. Everything is new, ready to be explored and there for her pleasure and excitement. She hangs on to her squeaky toys like Peanuts' character Linus carries his blanket. Julliard sleeps, romps, and plays with the two greyhounds in the family, and shares the same bedroom with two cats. This delightful, petite girl makes friends with everyone, whether human or animal. She is smart, quick to learn the rules, and very affectionate. Cuddling is one of her favorite pastimes. The term "stuck like glue" definitely applies to her. She is mom's constant shadow. She would probably do well in a household with other dogs, since she seems to need their companionship.

BirchBirch -- Adopted and living in Thousand Oaks
Age: 2 Sex: F Color: White and red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Birch is an adorable and friendly girl, who breaks the hearts of everyone she meets. She is a happy-go-lucky girl who loves to squeak her toys, toss and catch them. She also likes to put in a couple of speed laps in the backyard just for old time's sake, though with a stuffed toy in her mouth. Birch enjoys her evening walks with Buddy, her Dalmatian friend, and is a breeze on the leash. She did show some sustained interest in a cat while out on a walk, so that may need some more exploration. One of her other interests lies in her taking my things (shoes, shirt or sofa pillow) out to play. Birch is not destructive and has not chewed anything--she is just a playful sort of girl. Her indoor manners are pretty good, only some minor counter surfing attempts, and potty training came quickly for her. She shows absolutely no food aggression. She still would rather take her treats from the floor rather than from her foster mom's hand. She prefers to sleep with her human but will also sleep in her dog bed. She is a smart girl and takes corrections easily.

SpruceSpruce -- Adopted and living in Sherman Oaks
Age: 4 Sex: M Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Spruce is a bubbly and super-affectionate boy. He likes to play with the small dog in the foster home almost as much as he loves squeaking and grunting all the toys he can find. He thinks that all visitors to the house are there for his pleasure and he delights in showing them how happy he is that they've come just to see him. He would be a great Meet & Greet hound or be great for a family with kids, or basically just about anyone because he is just a nice, fun dog. He walks perfectly on a leash. Just like most greyhounds, he also enjoys relaxing on dog beds most of the time. He would even like to share a dog bed with his greyhound friends, and though they aren’t quite as enthusiastic about that idea, they comply and let him lay next to them.

BerkeleyBerkeley -- Adopted and living in Rancho Mirage
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Dark red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Berkeley is definitely "all girl." Seeing her develop very day is a joy. She is learning how to play. By evening time, she has collected at least eight toys in her bed. She really likes the furry ones. She started out quite shy but every day she loosens up more. She loves to nibble your hand and give a few licks to show her affection. And she follows her foster mom everywhere. What a love!

OakOak -- Adopted and living in Upland
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: M Color: White with brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: W/N

Oak has adapted to life in a home so quickly that it's hard to believe he spent all of his first three years on farms and in kennels. He discovered pretty quickly that he just has to ask to get affection. He loves to play with toys, especially if they squeak. His activity level is moderate—he enjoys playing with the other dogs or people, but if left alone for more than a few minutes usually lays down. He's a smart guy, too. He nailed potty training quickly, and learned to sit in less than a week. He gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home, and tested workable with small animals. He shows too much interest in cats to live with them, however. Oak would enjoy living with other dogs, but he's probably confident enough to do well as an only dog.

RhineRhine -- Adopted and living in La Crescenta
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Brindle and white
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

If you're looking for a more playful and active greyhound who gets along great with large and small dogs, and you don't have cats, Rhine may be the dog for you. This little girl is cute and spunky. She is a toy maniac. Despite having lots of dog toys, she finds other items that she thinks are new and exciting toys like the laundry and plastic water bottles. She still acts quite puppyish for her age, playing continuously with the small dog in the foster home, and even getting the old greyhounds to run a bit with her. She would not do well as an only dog because of her higher activity level. She has trained us to keep all food items off the counter where she could “investigate” them. She is outgoing and loves people of all ages and loves to have her ears rubbed and be brushed. Compared to most greyhounds she does have quite a bark, but that’s really only to scare away the kitties that enter our yard. She definitely feels like it’s her duty to keep those creatures away from her happy house. Going for walks is one of her favorite things to do as is going for rides in the car.

PinePine -- Adopted and living in Rancho Cucamonga
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Red fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Pine is outgoing, energetic and full of life. It's a joy to watch her discover her new world and surroundings. She loves our early morning walks, even in the rain. She also loves riding in the car and settles down immediately. She lives in a house with three cats and ignores them as they run about. She likes to take her time with eating, especially in the morning, and will often go back and forth to her bowl. She loves special treats such as sardines, carrots, bananas and, of course, any kind of dog treat. She interacts well with our other grey and follows her almost everywhere. She will not, however, venture too far if her foster mom is not close by. She is very loving and can’t wait to take on the day.

RosemaryRosemary -- Adopted and living in Simi Valley
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Rosemary's personality is blossoming more and more each day. She enjoys meeting new people and gets along well with the four other greyhounds in her foster home. She has discovered that snuggling and neck scritches are quite enjoyable and she returns affection with enthusiasm. She has started to play with toys and loves to find one with a hole in it so she can pull the stuffing out. Her activity level is moderate. She enjoys her walks. So far she's been content to sleep on the dog beds and has not tried to get on the couch. She learned the doggie door right away. Rosemary's favorite thing is food, any kind of food. She's eating more slowly now, but still thinks that all dog food and treats are hers. She's not aggressive about it, she just tries to get it. Remarkably, her manners with human food are excellent--just turn her head away and tell her go lie down and she does!

MapleMaple -- Adopted and living in Brentwood
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Maple is ready to be a part of your pack. She is great with kids as well as adults. She enjoys getting attention from people and likes to reciprocate. The foster home's 5-year-old daughter has nicknamed her "Kissy Miss" because she likes to give lots of kisses. She has taken well to the classic elements of retired life like toys, soft places to sleep, jumping around in excitement, sun bathing in the backyard and joining in on whatever is happening around her. When someone comes home or leaves, she springs up on her feet ready for the next adventure. If she doesn't get to come along, she's content doing a few laps around in the backyard to get the energy out. This girl is a joy to watch and have around. She does needs the companionship of another dog but pays no attention to cats.

ColumbiaColumbia -- Adopted and living in Montrose
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Red brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Colombia is an exuberant, tail wagging, kissy girl. She is attached to her foster mom like glue, even though there are other dogs in the home. She can be vocal (but not for very long) when mom goes out of sight. She is ever so happy when mom returns. She is living with cats and doesn't seem to mind them even though they can be loud and crazy. She has never been destructive when home alone and rides well in the car. All those trips to the vet to tend her injury have helped make her quite content and relaxed while traveling. Since she can't go on official walks until the vet gives the okay, we're not sure how she is on the leash. Her main activity is to go to Meet & Greets, where she's our official Donation Dog coat wearer, and say hello to all who come to see her.

WillowWillow -- Adopted and living in Studio City
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Black and white
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Willow is a beautiful, athletic greyhound with an outgoing personality. She made herself quite at home the first day we got her. She only had one accident in the house and learned to use the dog door on the first day. She is very curious and likes to investigate everything. So far Willow does not seem to have any fears and is not nervous around loud noises. She loves to go on walks and jog with her foster dad. It's good that she likes to exercise, because she loves to eat. Willow likes everyone she meets, including children. She gets along well with my 14-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son. She likes to chase my other dog and play with him. Willow is starting to play with her toys and likes to collect toys and shoes and put them on her bed. She also seems to enjoy looking out the window during car rides. Willow likes to know where you are but does not need to follow you everywhere. She would probably like a home with another dog but would also do fine as an only dog. Willow is an easy dog to love and would do well in just about any home.

CedarCedar-- Adopted and living in Hermosa Beach
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: M Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Cedar is going to make someone very happy, with his quiet eyes and wagging tail. His beautiful caramel color seems to get a lot of attention at Meet & Greets. He was quick to learn how to be a pet. He found his bed right away, navigated the few stairs in his foster home, hoarded toys, begged for treats, and mastered the doggie door, all within a few days. But what Cedar knows best is how to relax. He's the typical laid-back boy greyhound. Although he does become playful with his foster pack, his favorite thing to do is settle in for a long nap. After a couple of warnings, he has grown accustomed to his kitty brothers and sisters quite nicely. He loves car rides, but doesn't love jumping in the back. He enjoys walks, and is learning not to pull on the leash. He carries the toys all around the house, but hasn't learned how to make them go squeak like the other dogs do. He's a sweet-natured boy who will curl up right inside your heart.

CurryCurry-- Adopted and living in Northridge
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

If we had to describe Curry with one word it would be LOVEABLE! Curry is a super smart, loving and an eager-to-please gal. She enjoys plenty of attention, kisses and is getting used to hugs. She enjoys the company of the two other greyhounds she is currently living with and vice versa. Whenever someone is at the door, she will give you a few sharp barks to alert you. Curry loves to run and play. She just discovered toys. One of her all-time favorite activities is chewing on a nice rawhide. Whoever is lucky enough to have Curry in their lives and heart will surely feel blessed.

AnnetteAnnette -- Adopted and living in Claremont
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: Red brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/?

Annette is a red brindle beauty who spends almost a third of her day “cochroaching” with her splinted leg in the air. She came off the tack on June 7 with a seriously broken leg that had unfortunately partially healed. She had surgery the next Monday and has never looked back to her days on the track.  Annette has been a true pet since she arrived at her foster home. She seems to know how lucky she is to come to live with a pack of hounds in an air-conditioned home, even if it includes living with an always-hungry beagle. Annette’s favorite nighttime bed is right next to her foster mom and dad's bed in the corner. She sneaks into the bedroom early each night to reserve that spot and will stare at any dog who gets there first. If they don’t move to give her the spot, she just climbs into bed with them! Annette is very sociable, loves ALL people and greets them enthusiastically often with her own brand of “roo” talk. She seems to like all dogs she has met. She has not yet met any cats. The only part of her new life she finds difficult is that she is homebound. She would love to be out running, walking or playing with the other hounds and can’t understand why she can’t.  He foster mom does everything to keep her quiet, resting, and off her foot. But Annette really wants to be on the run.

HickoryHickory -- Adopted and living in Winnetka
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Black and white
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

You might not think, looking at this petite and delicate greyhound girl raced 123 times and won 17 of those races. She is also a very unique looking girl. She has a white undercarriage with black back, with black running down her legs and a white stripe on her nose. Better than all the speed and looks is that she is a real sweetie and turning out to be a bit less of a "Velcro dog" now that she has been in her foster home a couple of weeks. Her foster mom thinks she has now figured out the flow of life as a pet and thinks it is quite nice. Hickory seems to be one of the less active greyhounds we have brought in lately and is content to sleep alone or with one of the other greyhounds, especially Caraway. She is not even much into sunning herself in the yard. She does seem to have one major requirement: to sleep in her people’s room at night. She has yet to meet a person she does not like. She thinks the small pets, except squirrels, are interesting but not important. She currently lives with a beagle and has not had one bad word to say to him, even around food. Though she initially tested a bit intolerant of small dogs, she has not shown signs of not liking them since and is certainly a good citizen on leash.

TarragonTarragon -- Adopted and living in Riverside
Age: 3 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W

Tarragon is a handsome, majestic, all-black male (aside from the sprinkling of white at his toes). He is cool at all times, and is very low maintenance. Tarragon starts every day on a walk with his foster pack, consisting of three female Greyhounds and a large Labrador Retriever. He is excellent on the lead and unlike most dogs, rarely stops to smell the "pee-mail." After a romp in the yard, you can bet he will spend the rest of the day sleeping on his big fluffy bed in his room until his foster parents return. And when they return, you can count on Tarragon giving lots of loving barks and "roos" before they come through the door. Tarragon is small dog friendly, but may yet need to be tested further for cat tolerance. He would probably do well as an only dog, though he is currently blossoming with a large pack of dogs. Tarragon simply loves to be close to his humans, whether they are cooking in the kitchen, watching TV for the evening, or sleeping quietly. He is easily pleased and does not require much more than just lots of "on time" love and adoration.

YosemiteYosemite -- Adopted and living in Woodland Hills
Age
: 1 1/2 Sex: M Color: White
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Workable

Yosemite is an all-white, very handsome, one-and-a-half-year-old male. He is extremely spunky and full of personality. Since he is still very young, Yosemite is almost like a puppy--very curious, very excited about life, and full of energy. Although he has more energy than some of the older hounds, he is also very eager to please and listens well to discipline. Gentle and consistent reinforcing will help him to learn the rules of the house. He is extremely affectionate and loves to give kisses. He also wants to be near his humans as much as possible and will wrap his legs around you or put his head in your lap. He absolutely lives to play with his toys, and will run back and forth and pounce on them. Yosemite is currently living with two other greyhounds and a small Italian Greyhound, and does very well with his foster siblings. He tries to entice them to play and loves to be with them. Yosemite is eager for companionship, and is not an independent soul. He would do well or in a home with another dog or dogs to pal around with, but would probably also be fine as an only dog in a home where his humans can spend a good deal of time with him. He is happiest when he is sharing his time with others. If you are looking for an outgoing, lively and very affectionate companion, then Yosemite will be the perfect match for you!

DogwoodDogwood -- Adopted and living in Carlsbad
Age 2: Sex: M Color: Red fawn and white
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Dogwood is very attached to people. He has started playing with toys and enjoys sunning himself on the patio. He has been to a Show & Tell and acted like he had been doing them forever. He pulls a bit when he starts out on his walk and can’t quite figure out how to jump into the van but we are confident he will catch on soon. He's normally fine when we leave the house. He gets along well with our other dogs but is most attached to our female dog. He is doing very well with the cats. If he meets the cats walking through the room, he will turn and go the other way. If they walk past him when he is on a pet bed, he will watch but not move. Dogwood is very responsive to the word "no," If we scold him, he will drop and kind of creep toward us.

MulberryMulberry -- Adopted and living in Carlsbad
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Mulberry is one of those greyhounds that is discovering puppyhood at the age of 2. Her first days off the track were quiet as she was trying to figure out all the new stuff. Now she is indulging herself in all the benefits of home (hogging beds and nosing others out of the way to get treats) as well as using all objects not nailed down as her personal toy collection. Her favorite "toy" is the fleece doughnut cat bed that she repeatedly removes from a chair in the dining room and drags all over the house and yard (yes, she figured out how to get it through the doggie door). She also favors footgear from zouris to shearling slippers. So far she hasn't destroyed anything. Mulberry goes on a daily 4-mile hike with the rest of her foster dog pack (2 greys & an English Shepherd) and is having the time of her life. She isn’t fazed by any of the things we encounter on the walk and loves to greet other hikers on the trail. When we get back home, she has learned to go quietly to her bed to wait for breakfast (this girl is a fast learner). The four cats who live with her seem to puzzle her a bit, but she has learned that they are off-limits. However this doesn’t keep her from trying to catch those pesky squirrels in the yard. She is an unusual grey in that she  wants to guard the home and will rush outside to bark at things that she thinks need barking at. This strenuous activity is usually followed by a long nap on as many dog beds over which she can drape herself. Mulberry is a lovely combination of a mellow greyhound and a goofy, playful puppy who probably could live in almost any home situation.

CinnamonCinnamon -- Adopted and living in Garden Grove
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Dark brindle & white
Small dog/cat tolerant: N/N

Cinnamon is very sweet and mellow in the house. She is good about waiting her turn when treats are handed out. She has learned where her food bowl goes down and does not try and go to other bowls. She seeks affection readily and loves to lay her head on your lap. She still finds the TV quite interesting if she sees animals or hears animal sounds. She hasn't yet figured out that she is the doggie in the window or mirror. She walks well on the leash, but she is constantly on alert for anything moving.

WalkerWalker -- Adopted and living in Los Feliz
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W

Walker is a funny, happy, affectionate boy with very pretty red brindle colors. He had a few accidents in the house at first but seems to have the idea now. He learned the doggy door quickly. At a Meet & Greet he was friendly and confident with men, women, and children. He was very curious about the smaller dogs but not aggressive. Walker needs a little work when walking on a leash. He is young and curious about everything so he'll do better with a bit more practice. Toys are one of his favorite things. When they squeak it's even better! His two foster brother greyhounds think he's a great guy and they all have fun playing together. Occasionally Walker has cried when left at home and might have a little separation anxiety. This is a dog who loves people so if you're sitting down you must expect him to come to you to lean his head against you and get a good neck scratch.

SageSage -- Adopted and living in Winnetka
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: Light brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Sage is a handsome, affectionate, silly tail-wagging boy who will steal your heart. He has been a wonderful dog to have as a foster. He loves to receive hugs and will gladly return hugs to you. He is crazy about having his belly rubbed and will lay on his back all day for attention. He enjoys lying on the couch to be close to his foster family. Sage is independent and does not feel the need to follow us around the house; but he will check on you if you’re gone too long. He likes taking walks and is learning to walk on leash without pulling. Sage gets along with all dogs he meets while on a walk. He takes interest in squirrels and cats, but does not feel the need to chase them. He has learned to use the dog door. Sage will carry his stuffies around the house, toss them in the air, then pick them up again and shake them. He loves to hear them squeak. He collects things around the house such as shoes, slippers, and blankets, but will not destroy them. Sage gets along great with his foster family which includes a chocolate Labrador, 2 cattle dogs, 3 chickens and a 10 year old girl.

PaprikaPaprika -- Adopted and living in Sierra Madre
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: M Color: Red & white
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Paprika is a gentle, confident greyhound. From the first night in his foster home, Paprika took everything in stride. He has conquered house training, stairs, mirrors, windows, marble floors, and elevator rides. He has made no messes in the home, even though we don't have a dog door. Paprika gets along very well with both our male and female greyhounds. He loves walks and is a pleasure to leash-walk. He shows interest in squirrels and critters on walks, but moves right along. His encounters with small dogs in the neighborhood have been very polite. His favorite at-home activity is kitchen supervisor. Currently we are working on his desire to counter surf. His calm, loving, well-balanced attitude easily fits into our household’s routine. He may be able to be an only dog, if he is given a brief period of support from his people. He has been a delight to work with and, we believe, will be a wonderful addition to any home.

BasilBasil -- Adopted and living in Chino Hills
Age: 4 Sex: M Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

This big happy boy is really enjoying discovering his new world. He loves walks (he jumps and spins when the leashes come out), toys, and other greyhounds. As he has come out of his shell he has become interested in smaller animals--not aggressive, but interested. He would need supervision if living with a small pet until he learns that they are off limits. In the same way, he's learning what items are toys (stuffed animals) and what items are not (TV remotes). He is not a chewer, but he sometimes "collects" shoes. Although possessing a very calm demeanor, he is alert to his surroundings and will give a sharp series of barks if someone comes to the door, or if he hears something unusual. He is a quick learner, mastering the "halt!" command on the first day's walk, and he's completely housebroken (we have no doggy door, so he's good all night). If we didn't already have three (our city's limit) we would keep this one. He will make an outstanding companion, and with his calm attitude would probably make a good only dog.

JuniperJuniper
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W

Juniper was a very sweet and endearing greyhound girl who came off the track on Nov 1st with a broken toe and a great personality, in spite of her pain. She went to live with her foster home and fit right in with the Queensland Heelers, lab mix and even the chickens. Most of all she loved to be around her foster mom and her pre-teen sister. She followed them around and loved the affection they gave her. Unfortunately, when she went to be spayed and have her toe amputated, something went terribly wrong and her heart stopped. Juniper is no longer with GreySave and has left a hole in the heart of the people who knew her for just the way too short time she lived as a pet. We will miss you, Juniper.

AmazonAmazon -- Adopted and living in Glendora
Age:
4 Sex: M Color: Fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant:
Y/Y

Amazon is a pretty goofy boy. He is excited about everything, especially food. He's not sure about squeaky toys yet, but when he stepped on one accidentally, he sure was curious. He's fine watching his pack mates throw them around, but he's still not ready to join in. On walks, however, he's part of the group and fits in great. He loves car rides and sleeping next to his foster sister. At Meet & Greets he is a ham for attention. When he sees people those big ears stand straight up. He tries to cockroach like the other dogs when asleep, but typically loses his balance and scares himself awake. Although he does love being part of a pack, he could be an only dog as long as his people stay close. He's not sure that no means no, but is learning how to behave. He'll be a constant source of smiles for whoever is lucky enough to adopt him.

Aunt BeaAunt Bea -- Adopted and living in Lake Arrowhead
Age: 2 Sex: F Color: Red brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Aunt Bea is cute, petite, and affectionate. She easily adjusted to life in the foster family of two greyhounds and two cats. Bea loves to play with squeaky toys and even tennis balls. She has discovered the joy of rolling in the grass, running in the yard, and sleeping on soft beds. While strolling in the park, she behaves well on a leash, and is extremely curious but friendly to other dogs. Bea has a warm, outgoing personality who loves everyone she meets. Since living with her foster home Bea has had plenty of attention and is quite the “velcro” girl until 9 pm when she scurries off to bed even when the family is still up. Bea loves any sort of group activity whether it is with people or greyhounds and would be most happy in an active home with plenty of activities, people and dogs to keep her company.

GracieGracie -- Adopted and living in Chino Hills
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Dark brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Gracie is a petite, gentle young lady. She gets along great with the other dogs (all greyhounds) in her foster pack, and has become quite attached to her foster mom and dad. She loves to ride in the car; she settles down right away. She's learned to play with toys and has a great time with them. She enjoys playing with the other dogs and sometimes instigates play with them. She learned housetraining very quickly. She's become quite the chow hound as she learns that LOTS of things are edible that she'd never smelled before. This has made her very easy to train. She is by nature a confident dog, but not pushy or domineering. She can be a bit shy around people until she gets to know them.

SaffronSaffron -- Adopted and living in Chatsworth
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: F Color: Brindle & white
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Saffron is a very friendly girl. She is adapting to home life fairly easily. She had housetraining down in no time. After the shyness wore off she decided that home life was great: yummy food twice a day, dog cookies, a nice yard to lounge in and a nice evening walk. She also likes the male Damatian in her foster pack. She does well on the leash--no pulling at all. She has also discovered the wonder of a tennis ball, tossing it around, up and down, chasing it (for about fives minutes, then she takes a nap). Her other pastime is playing with socks. Her blankie is like a secondary toy. Apart from playtime she's fairly calm most of the day. Saffron gets excited when we come home. She's still learning not to counter surf.

GingerGinger -- Adopted and living in Long Beach
Age: 1.75 Sex: F Color: White w/black & ticking
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Ginger is a very beautiful and sweet dog who is friendly to adults and children. She has a very soft coat and feels like a rabbit. She is a playful girl and likes to engage you in play. She enjoys playing with her dog toys. She also likes to run and play chase with the other dog in the house, an English Setter. Ginger loves her walks and walks very nicely on a leash. She is starting to get interested in squirrels but does not chase them. She likes to play with other dogs that come over to the house. Ginger also runs perfectly next to my husband when he jogs around the neighborhood. She loves people but does not stick to you like velcro. She can be content just cuddling next to you or sleeping next to my dog. Ginger is a happy easy going dog that will bring nothing but joy into your life.

NutmegNutmeg -- Adopted and living in West LA
Age: 2 Sex: F Color: Fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: ?/?

Sweet Nutmeg is still a little bewildered by her new life and all the new sights, smells, the funny notions of unacceptable behavior (like counter surfing), and toys that go squeak. She is eager to please and very sensitive to her environment, so training has been easy. She loves walks, and is still fascinated by other animals. Pet Depot is bewildering yet so totally interesting to her. She loves to by snuggled, and will come over to her foster mom for attention. She isn’t shy with people but still uncertain about aspects of her new life. With a little more time to adjust to pet life, she will be a loving and wonderful companion. She is a sweet girl, yet to fully blossom.

AlleghenyAllegheny -- Adopted and living in Chatsworth
Age:
2 Sex: F Color: Red fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant:
Y/N

Allegheny is one gorgeous girl! She loves people and is eager for play or love. She gets along well with our other greyhounds and enjoys enticing them to play. Allie loves her food and is always looking for a snack. She loves to be with her people and enjoys napping while you read or watch television. Allie enjoys playing with her toys. Allie does well with small dogs but is not cat safe. Allie may not do well as an only dog, since she seems to need either a dog or person around. With her exotic good looks and loving personality she will make someone a loving companion.

DanubeDanube -- Adopted and living in Orange
Age:
2 Sex: F Color: Blue fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant:
Y/Y

Danube is petite, gentle, loving, and playful. She affectionately follows us from room to room and gets along well with her male greyhound companion. She’s a bit timid right now, but is gaining confidence daily. She quickly figured out stairs, windows, and mirrors. After she went too fast and basically tobogganed down the stairs a couple of times, she learned to be more careful. She loves food, treats, and toys. She especially loves squeak toys, and tends to squeak them non-stop. We decided to give her squeak toys in small doses--for our sanity and hers. She loves car rides and is a breeze to walk. She heels and is calm around other dogs and the people she meets. She’s environmentally conscious too! While on walks, she loves to pick up discarded plastic bottles and carry them in her mouth to the nearest trash can for her foster mom to discard.

ParsleyParsley -- Adopted and living in Lancaster
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: M Color: White & red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

This big guy has eyes that will melt your heart. He's a sweet and mellow dog. If you want to play though, he's up for that too. He lives with a Cavalier Spaniel who is a food hog. He doesn't get upset when she tries to eat his kibble. There's also a cat in the home, but he doesn't seem to notice her. He enjoys going for long, leisurely walks but isn't too keen yet on being in a car. Parsley gets pampered and showered with affection from a 6-year-old and is gentle with her and her friends. He understands when you say "No!" and stops whatever he's doing. When he's relaxed and sleeping, you can sometimes catch him lying on his back with his hind legs stretched up in the air. His favorite spots are the softest and plushest ones in the house. He spends most of his time lounging around but will occasionally follow a human to see what he or she is up to and to get some head pats and chest rubs. This guy is a sweetheart that is willing to listen and follow your lead. We love to just put our arms around him and give him hugs. Sometimes he gives a doggie kiss in return.

SequoiaSequoia -- Adopted and living in Woodland Hills
Age
: 2 Sex: F Color: Red brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Sequoia is a sweet, petite girl. She came to her foster home extremely timid. Going on greyhound walks and to Meet & Greets have brought about a complete turn around. She still has to approach people rather than them approach her, but she is doing a lot better and seems to like children a lot. They have to be older though, maybe 8 and up. She lives with several cats and pays no attention to them, and has been playing with her greyhound foster brother. She hasn't quite learned to play with the toys yet but has started taking treats out of hand. She will jump right in the car and likes to ride. She also loves to go on walks and does well on a leash. Sequoia would prefer to be with another dog, or with a human that is home a lot.

KlamathKlamath -- Adopted and living in Studio City
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Dark brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Klamath is a smallish brindle female. She seems to get along well with all dogs, cats, and rabbits. She did meet a rabbit once, and after an initial sniff was uninterested. Klamath was a race winner with a significant number of win, place, and shows but is taking retirement seriously because we haven’t yet seen her run! She's just another lazy greyhound that likes to be by your side, lay in your lap, ride in the car, or do anything you are doing. She's a submissive girl who would get along with virtually any combination of pets or two-legged housemates. She is getting more playful every day but still remains a little tentative and cautious. Klamath should adjust well to pretty much any adoption situation.

QuigleyQuigley -- Adopted and living in Huntingtion Beach
Age: 4 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Workable

Quigley is a happy and outgoing boy, a most friendly dog to everyone he meets. He loves to give wet kisses. The only thing he does not understand is that he is just a little too big to be a lap dog. We have had no problem with him jumping up on the furniture or bed. We're still correcting his desire to counter surf, grab food out of your hands, and help with selection of items from the frig. He loves to be with the other dogs in the house but would rather be with the humans. He seems to be an independent soul most of the time. He loves to go for walks and has no problem with traffic noise on busy streets. Household noises are also not an issue. He has learned the dog door but at this point does not like to go out in the dark without a human friend. We have only had one small accident in the house. Because of the cast for a small broken bone in the right front foot we have not worked on stairs or jumping in and out of the car. Once in the car, he lies down for most of the trip. Tile and wood floors, as well as windows and mirrors are no longer an issue. Quigley is a real charmer who should fit well in most any home. We feel so lucky to have had this greyt guy in our home.

ThamesThames -- Adopted and living in Sierra Madre
Age:
4 1/2 Sex: F Color: White and fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant:
Y/Y

Thames is a beautiful girl with expressive eyes. She is one of the most easygoing greyhounds her foster parents have ever met. She is mellow and content about everything that goes on from hanging out with the other hounds, going on walks, bathing in the sunny yard or even riding 11 hours in the car. Thames is great at adjusting to new circumstances and normally does so without any change in her demeanor. However, there are two things that get her up and moving: getting ready for a walk, and the sound of food preparation. She seems to say that she never got enough walks, pets, or food on the track and she needs to make up for lost time. So far she has not met a person, big or small, that she has not liked. She does not mind being hugged, cuddled, or petted by anyone, any size, anytime. As a matter of fact those are her favorite things and she will reciprocate with a nice big lick. Thames is a quietly happy hound that is looking for peaceful home with good food and plenty of walks.

QuickQuick -- Adopted and living in Thousand Oaks
Age: 2 Sex: F Color: White ticked and black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

When Quick arrived from the track, she was a very subdued and quiet gal. She spent her first couple of days attempting to hide in the shrubbery in the (fenced) front yard. But she soon learned that cushy beds and the company of the pack inside the house was much more to her liking. Quick is sensitive but not timid. Her "wagger" has been in constant use since day one; it only stops when she gets a scolding for attempting to counter-surf. She is also the very first dog we have ever seen that smiles with her "lips," not her teeth. She is starting to smile a lot. She’s been going on daily walks of almost four miles and is a social fool. She loves to meet people and dogs. She tries valiantly to chase squirrels and bunnies and birds. She is not fazed by the pedestrian bridge over the freeway. She’s really become Miss Sociable.

On the home front, she gets along famously with two other greys and an English Shepherd mix. The four pesky cats in her pack she ignores as best she can, even when they get up in her business. Since she is still puppyish, she likes to hold things in her mouth. She doesn’t destroy them, just likes to carry them around. To date, she has tranported a walnut in the shell, a pinecone, a pair of shorts, a sandal, a cardboard container for a six pack, and her dog bed. You may laugh too hard to correct her. Quick may be a good candidate for an only dog household, but she certainly enjoys her foster pack.

NileNile -- Adopted and living in Glendora
Age: 4 Sex: M Color: Dark brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Nile has been glued to his foster mom from the first day. He follows her into every room. He will hold your hand in his mouth when he misses you or when he becomes excited. He relishes receiving love from his foster family. Nile is smart, a fast learner and gets along with everyone and everything that crosses his path, including small animals. He has adjusted to living with his foster family well. He enjoys sleeping on a soft dog bed and even stealing one from one of the other dogs. Nile loves to have his belly rubbed and will “cockroach” for you to get just the right place. When going for walks, he tends to pull a bit on the leash, but if told to heel he will stop pulling. He watches the activity around him, but does not feel the need to run after anything. Nile learned to go outside to go potty the second day he was home and has only had one accident in the house. He has mastered the “come” and “stay” commands, tile floors, elevators and closed stairs. Loud noises, traffic, and large crowds do not bother him. He is currently living with a 10-year-old girl, a chocolate Labrador, two cattle dogs and three chickens. Nile may join in if one of his pack mates starts barking, but will not start the barking himself. He has been a fantastic dog to have as a foster and would be a wonderful addition to any household, including those with children, dogs, or small animals. Nile would probably be able to adjust to life as the only dog, as long as his humans were around a lot.

KernKern -- Adopted and living in Winnetka
Age: 1 1/2 Sex: M Color: Fawn and white
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Kern is a big, happy boy who is quickly learning how to be a pet. He is housebroken and is almost as fast on the stairs as our other two greyhounds. He loves to be in the middle of the crowd, especially at breakfast and dinnertime! He enjoys going on walks with the other greys and walks very well on leash. He’s discovered the joys of squeaky toys, bones and dog beds and loves to have his neck rubbed. Kern is a very curious boy who wants to see what everything is and how it smells. He is learning about all the normal household sounds and is a bit cautious around the vacuum. He was a little timid at first but now wags his tail whenever anyone comes in the house. In fact, he now pushes his way to the front to see who it is. He is smiling now too and is comfortable resting with the other greys or with his foster family. Sometimes he wonders where all his people have gone and will bark a little. A gentle scolding and a shake of the spray bottle quiets him down. He just needs to know someone is there. He is not interested in the cat that lives with us and doesn’t seem to care too much about the small dogs walking in our neighborhood. He is learning how to get in and out of our car but still needs some help. Kern is a big and big-hearted boy who is certain to be a wonderful companion for someone, though we think he would prefer being around another dog or with someone who is home a lot.

MercedMerced -- Adopted and living in Glassell Park
Age: Sex:
M Color: White
Small dog/cat tolerant:
Y/W

Merced is a handsome boy who has adjusted well to condo life, including riding the elevator, climbing stairs, house training, and dealing with marble floors and with mirrors. To date, he has made no messes in the home, and that's without a yard or dog door. Merced gets along very well with his two Greyhound housemates. He has no trouble interacting with the neighborhood’s vast array of small dogs. His maturity was evident from day one. Street noise, barking dogs, sirens, construction noise, skateboards--no problem.  He is quick to learn and wants to please. On long walks he is interested in squirrels and critters but moves right along. Presently he is working on his leash-walking skills (he tends to lean into his person).  He is very sociable and might do well as an only dog, if his people are around.  Merced is a joy to foster and will make a very loving companion.

HudsonHudson -- Adopted and living in Manhattan Beach
Age:
2 1/2 Sex: M Color: Red brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant:
Y/Y

Hudson is a sweet and respectful boy.  Though he came to us with a minor foot injury, you would never know it now as he loves to gallop and toss his toys in the air while he runs and plays with his foster-mates.  Hudson is excellent in a pack of 5 dogs.  He prefers to be right next to a foster-mate or his foster mom, where he can slumber into sleep knowing he is safe and sound.    Hudson loves a walk with his pack and is respectable and loving towards all humans.  Hudson has just discovered his bark, especially when his foster dad is jumping rope as part of his morning exercise.  Though Hudson does not live with cats or small animals in his foster home, he has spent time with a cat and small-dog home and has passed with flying colors.  Hudson loves his dog house and soft beds, sleeps all night without a peep, and enjoys a chew on a good bone every now and then.  Hudson would make an excellent member of any pack, or he could easily live with just his human family members without a problem.  Hudson is a good canine citizen!

QTQT -- Adopted and living in Long Beach
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Workable

QT is an active girl who likes to follow her foster mom around. She is interested in everything and takes new situations in stride. She is a fast learner and has adapted to her new life very quickly. She is enjoying the luxury of retirement with a soft bed and plenty of food. She appears to be very smart and knows the "No" and "Come" commands already. She uses the doggy door faithfully and is good on a leash. She shows only moderate interest in cats in the neighborhood. She loves affection and puts her head in your hand as you walk around just to get an extra pat or two. QT will make a fantastic companion and will be as attentive and loving as you are to her.

QuakerQuaker -- Adopted and living in Studio City
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Fawn brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Quaker is all girl. In appearance, personality and gestures she is very feminine. She is a quiet dog, still adjusting to pet life, wants to please you, very sensitive to her environment but not a shy dog, and very sweet. Quaker rides well in the car, loves her walks and pet store trips, she is friendly to everyone she meets but still a little guarded. She is friendly to all dogs she meets, and appears cat safe. She gets along well with the 2 greyhounds in her foster home, but prefers to be with her humans, and loves to snuggle with her humans. Her foster mom thinks Quaker is a special girl, a little more time to adjust to pet life, and she will be that loving devoted companion, with spirts of puppy playfulness.

GlacierGlacier -- Adopted and living in Glendale
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Workable

Glacier loves people. She really looks into your eyes and watches people’s faces with her big brown eyes and wants to give little kisses in exchange for approving appreciation. She is bright white with a black nose and few cute little grey/black markings, but mostly brilliant white. She has a beautiful smile when she’s getting attention. A bit of a diva, she’s rather particular about who she plays with and when and how she plays, but she is very playful and can often be found entertaining herself with a squeaky toy. She’s generally curious. She’s not a counter surfer for food; in fact she doesn’t eat much. She is a great little watchdog with confidence and awareness to bark at nighttime disturbances and likes certain other greyhounds very much, though her primary interest is in her humans. She’s a delicate, dainty, white marble figurine with tons of affection and energy for her favorite people. She is an adorable, intelligent, eager to please, very personable, human-oriented, little lady-hound. Her cute little moves include frequent interested ear pricking, and she has a glamorous, dainty demeanor with a youthful personality.

QuebecQuebec -- Adopted and living in West Los Angeles
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: F Color: White and fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Quebec is a beautiful, very loving greyhound. She would be happy to just sit in your lap all day. From the first day off the track she was right at home going for car rides and walks on a leash. She is a fast learner and loves getting her breakfast biscuit. Quebec just loves to run around the yard but keeps a close eye on her foster parents and never strays too far. She is a tiny girl, weighing approximately 50 pounds, but manages to hold her own with the "boys" in her foster home. Quebec is currently living with two other large male greyhounds and an American Staffordshire Terrier whom she gets along with very well. She is comfortable at home curled up on a dog bed at your feet, as well as hopping up and laying at your side on the couch. She loves being around people, getting and giving hugs and gives gentle little kisses. Her tail is always going and she has even learned to grin which shows all her pretty white teeth. There are also six cats in her foster home with whom she gets along with extremely well. Quebec seems to be very comfortable being a pack dog and would do best in a home with other dogs.

Benny

Benny -- Adopted and living in Bradbury
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/No

Benny was put on this earth to be a snuggle-bug. He loves people more than anything and would be ideal for a home with kids or very affectionate adults. For a young boy, he is quite mellow. He gets playful in the mornings and will run if the other hounds take a few laps around the yard, but he is pretty content to lie in the same room as his people and snooze while they are typing on the computer or watching TV. He loves squeaky toys and also likes to play with the small dog in the foster home. Benny would do best in a home with another dog. He does like to get in bed with his people, and he loves to stand with his head in your lap while you pet him. He walks nicely on a leash.

QuincyQuincy -- Adopted and living in Huntington Beach
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: M Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: No/No

"Lovable, affectionate and just plan old silly" describes Quincy well. He loves to receive hugs and kisses and give kisses back to you. He is a dog that enjoys being with his family, but can be left alone for six to eight hours at a time. Quincy enjoys meeting other people and dogs and has never had any problem with anyone. Quincy walks great on a leash. He will sometimes speed up if he sees a small animal, but is easily corrected. He also enjoys going for rides in the truck and will jump in by himself. Quincy has never had an accident in the house and is learning how to use the dog door. He will whine to let us know when he needs to go outside. He likes to sleep in the bedroom with us and will "go to bed" when told. He is currently living with a chocolate lab, two cattle dogs (Queensland Healers), four chickens and a 10-year-old girl. He has become quite attached to the girl and enjoys following her around the house and getting lots of love.

LucyLucy -- Adopted and living in Buena Park
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Red fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Lucy is a sweet, affectionate, kissing greyhound. She will occasionally play with stuffies, but she prefers receiving attention from her human companions. Lucy gets along well with her three greyhound playmates, She has mastered the house challenges including climbing stairs and using the doggie door. Lucy has learned about treats and accepts them eagerly. She is very tolerant of the two cats that live in her foster home. She also does very well with the seven-month-old baby in the home. Lucy is not an Alpha dog, but she is not a wimp either. She will speak her mind if needed, but she has not shown any aggression towards the other dogs or cats in the house. This beautiful red fawn girl rides well and does well on leash. She is a very happy and loving dog and readily greets guests at the front door along with her housemates. Lucy would do well in a home with another mild-mannered greyhound.

PepperPepper -- Adopted and living in Sun Valley
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/No

Pepper sleeps quietly through the night and during the middle of the day, but when it’s playtime she wants to play! She is on the higher end of  the greyhound activity scale. Pick up the leash and she's ready to go. Pepper may have lived alone in her past life, which might explain why she’s making up for lost time as she interacts with the people and animals in her foster home. She is one of the most affectionate greyhounds we have fostered in over fifteen years. She loves people, all people, just as much as her furry friends. She really likes other dogs. Pepper is fairly tall for a female. She has a crooked nose and an underbite that just add to her goofy, playful demeanor. Pepper is very attentive, intelligent, and responds well to guidance. She isn’t possessive of food, toys, bones, or balls, with any of the dogs she has been around. She typically walks nicely on a leash, but can get excited when she sees another dog. She's making good progress in this area. She can be a bit of a klutz at times. If you want a lot of free entertainment and a lively companion, Pepper might be the dog for you.

VictoriaVictoria -- Adopted and living in Valley Village
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: White w/black
Small dog/cat tolerant: No/No

Victoria is sweet, playful, and full of personality. She quickly mastered the house, car, and social rules, although she is still working on "sharing" toys and getting used to her reflection. Victoria has yet to meet a stuffie, soft surface, or dog treat not to her liking. The picture of calmness, grace, and elegance on outings, Victoria is a bit of a clown at home, welcoming her humans to laugh and join in the fun. She loves children. Victoria's "ungreylike" tendencies--fetching, catching tennis balls in midair, and playing in the sprinklers--continue to unfold. Her enthusiasm and delight in her new pampered life have her jumping for joy, giving kisses, and roo-rooing. She is a bit of a "princess" who would get along well with larger male dogs, but would probably prefer to be an only dog in new forever home.

BryceBryce -- Adopted and living in Orange
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Bryce is a loving, playful, and affectionate boy. He’s curious and loves toys. He especially likes balls, and is learning to fetch. He’ll play either with his humans or by himself. He is respectful of the 12-year-old greyhound he lives with. He tries to get her to play with him. He’s very affectionate with humans and follows us from room to room. He leans or rests his head on us to soak up pets. He loves car rides and walks. He aims to please, and is easily corrected when he mistakes a couch pillow for a stuffie. He has never had an accident in the house. He immediately mastered the stairs. Mirrors and sliding glass doors took him just a couple of days longer to figure out.

NewtonNewton -- Adopted and living in San Diego
Age
: 4 Sex: M Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Newton is a sweet, friendly and quite beautiful red brindle boy. He is a little timid when approached unexpectedly, but when given a moment to collect himself, he's friendly and curious. He seems to be drawn to children and wants to play with them. He gets along well with his two foster brother greyhounds too. Newton walks well on a leash, jumps into and out of the car easily and lies down quickly after the car ride begins. He has very nice manners whether at Petsmart or on a walk around the block. Newton rarely barks, but he'll give a couple of excited, deep barks when he sees the car come into the driveway. Newton likes squeaky toys. He has carried his newest favorite one around for three days now. Newton likes to get on the couch and rest his head on your lap. His foster mom even discovered him in the middle of the bed one day as if this was his own very big doggy bed. Newton is a gentle boy, and would probably like a home with children and other pets to keep him company.

Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

BeckyBecky -- Adopted and living in Burbank
Age
: 8 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Becky is a very sweet and extremely affectionate greyhound girl. She loves all animals, whether dog, cat or bird, but she especially loves people. She turns on the charm with ease and is already a greyhound adoption marketing specialist at the valley Meet and Greets. She has charmed quite a few people and they always end up wanting to take her home right then. Becky likes to go on long walks, enjoys a run every now and then, and has been working on her post puppy figure. She came to GreySave a bit thin and not very muscular but she has put on some weight and toned up a bit because of those daily walks. She likes living with her greyhound friend Indy and does not even mind his taking what he thinks is the best bed. It's as though she knows that Indy lived there first and is a bit set in his ways. She also knows that there are plenty of great beds to go around at her foster mom’s house and has made up her mind that she will stay right there forever.

AcadiaAcadia -- Adopted and living in Altadena
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: White and black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Acadia is a petite, beautiful, white female with black patches. She is very sweet and affectionate and loves to give kisses. Although she is a little bit shy she enjoys being around people. She watches our other dog with amusement as he tries to entice her with toys. After two weeks in our home she has not started to play with them, but moves them from bed to bed. Acadia is learning to use the dog door and has not had an accident in the house. She listens well and walks great on a leash. She absolutely loves going for walks and gets very excited when she sees her leash. When we walk in the neighborhood, everyone comments on how pretty she is. She looks like a living painting. One of her favorite pastimes is to relax on the patio. She would do well in a home without small children as they might be too rambunctious for her. She remains calm with my 14-year-old daughter but is a little nervous with my 8-year-old son. Whoever adopts her will have a true friend for life.

BiscayneBiscayne -- Adopted and living in West Hollywood
Age: 2 Sex: F Color: Brindle and white
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Workable

Biscayne is a real looker of a young lady who loves to follow her foster humans around trying to get them to pet her. She comes when called and responds to anyone, including kids, who will give her attention. Counter sniffing is of great interest to her. When told NO she will stop, however. Dog treats are just now being taken from our hands. She does well on leash, apart from her frequent stops to inspect anything that catches her eye. She is always willing and ready to go on long walks. She can be left at home all day with no problem. She looks out the window when her humans leave for work, and is there when she hears us return. The daily obstacles of a home were never an issue for her: she has mastered stairs, tile floors, mirrors, and used the dog door within 10 minutes of her arrival in our home. We are working with her on jumping into the car (jumping out is not an issue). Toys are of no interest yet, but she wants to play and run with the other greyhound in our home. She should fit well into any home with other dogs, and with a little work should be OK with cats. She is not at all a dominant dog. She likes to lay on the same bed at the same time with our other greyhound. She gets along well with a cattle dog as well. Her cute ears and endearing personality are sure to melt your heart.

Elly MaeEllie Mae -- Adopted and living in Burbank
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Dark brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/No

Ellie Mae is a gorgeous girl with expressive brown eyes that beg you to love or play with her. She gets along very well with our other two greyhounds and walks beautifully on leash. Ellie learns quickly; she mastered the dog door in one day and has yet to have had an accident in the house. She does have a mischievous streak. She loves to gather our socks around her bed and lay with them.

ZeldaZelda -- Adopted and living in Studio City
Age: 2 Sex: F Color: Dark brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Zelda is a playful, loving little girl. She laps up attention as eagerly as she inhales the food from her bowl and loves to give and get kisses. She does the "greyhound lean" where she'll stand against you and gradually shift all her weight in your direction. She often stands with one or more paws on top of your feet as if to say, "You're not going anywhere." She just turned two in May and definitely has the eagerness of a puppy, exploding with excitement when we enter the room. She is potty-trained and let's us know when it's time to go out (which helps when you live in a third-floor apartment). She's learning to walk with the leash and seems to do best when she can trot beside our other greyhound. Walking around the neighborhood in slippers at 6am doesn't seem so painful when you have a dog like Zelda looking up at you excitedly to make sure you're not going anywhere without her. Zelda also is very social around people and dogs. She loves to meet everyone she sees, big and small, human and dog. She also gets along quite nicely with our fluffy white cat, who likes to lie down near the dogs' beds. She seems more confident with another dog around, (we took her out once by herself for a few hours and she got really shy). She is a true sweetheart.

ZionZion-- Adopted and living in Altadena
Age
: 3 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Workable/No

Zion is a beautiful, black teddy bear of a boy with dark eyes and a happy, easy-going manner. Within a few days of getting to his foster home he realized something good had just happened. He was for the first time living in a house with soft dog pads and good food and taking walks where he could greet all the neighbors. He recognized what a deal this was and became the perfect foster. Soon Zion discovered squeaky toys are good not only for squeaking but for tossing in the air and maybe even ripping apart. He also discovered chasing (but not retrieving) tennis balls and that you can play tug of war with people. From the first day he was great at walking on leash, but a bit too curious about those small critters that bark at him and jump about. Zion knows he is the dog that the term Velcro Greyhound was invented to describe, and will follow his foster parent just about anywhere. His favorite spot is under the desk where serious work is being done or maybe next to the bed when everyone is asleep. He is great at both cat naps and extended sleeps. He is looking for a home that will take him on long walks, let him hang out under the desk or pet him for hours.

RickyRicky -- Adopted and living in Tustin
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: White
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Ricky is a shy boy that’s still cautious of everyone, but you can tell that he wants to be loved. He doesn’t run from us, but walks away rather quickly. When I approach him to tickle his belly he licks and chews, showing he loves the attention. He doesn’t even notice the cats in his foster home until they try to eat out of his bowl. Then he just backs away. He’s starting to play with toys and “roos” when it’s time to go for a walk in the morning. He’s not only pretty, but very polite! He has not had any accidents in the house! He’s a sweet boy.

TrixieTrixie -- Adopted and living in Silver Lake
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Workable/No

Trixie greets us every time we come home with the greatest greyhound grin we have ever seen. She is a little shy, but with love and a bit of patience she will come around. She is a fast learner; she has never had an accident in the house and learned to use the dog door on her second day in her foster home. She enjoys sleeping most of the day and likes evening walks after dinner. Most of the time Trixie walks well and confidently on a leash but periodically she will "freeze" for no apparent reason. However, with a bit of encouragement and redirection she quickly starts walking again. Trixie interacts with children wonderfully and loves their affection when correctly given. Her foster family includes a 9-year-old girl, a Labrador Retriever, two Queensland Healers and chickens. She should have no problem living with medium or larger dogs. Trixie still does not like to share her food, toys or bed, but has improved over time. She is more of an independent dog than some greyhounds and may do well as the only dog. Trixie comes enthusiastically when called and enjoys having her belly rubbed, lots of kisses and cuddling.

DagwoodDagwood-- Adopted and living in Upland
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: M Color: White
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/No

For many people, the ideal large male greyhound would be gentle, playful but well mannered, and affectionate. This in fact describes Dagwood very well. When he wants to be petted, he just stands near you and patiently waits for you to notice him and love him up. While he is confident, he is not at all pushy or domineering. He gets along great with the other dogs in his foster family (all greyhounds), though at this point he’s more interested in interacting with his people. He is becoming playful, but so far just plays with toys by himself. Dagwood is tall and lanky. Dagwood is pretty smart, too. He has never had an accident in the house. In just two weeks he has learned to sit and lay down. At his first Meet & Greet, he was friendly towards everyone. He does not exhibit separation anxiety when we leave.

AliceAlice-- Adopted and living in Etiwanda
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Smart and sweet describe this adorable little greyhound. Alice quickly made the transition from kennel to home. She is very smart. She has never had an accident in the house, and even let us know when her tummy wasn’t feeling good by barking at the door so she could go outside to spit up. Alice quickly learned what to do when hearing “halt!” on her walks with her foster brother and sister, and she’s a breeze on a leash. After a few squirt-bottle sessions, Alice won’t even look at Kato, our Siamese cat, but she is intrigued by our bearded dragon, and puts her nose on the aquarium he lives in. With her smarts, she should quickly learn what (or who) is off limits in her new home. She loves being around people and dogs, and gets lonely when she’s by herself, so she would probably be happiest in a home with other dogs. But she’s not needy at all and just plops on her pad with a big smile if you don’t have time to play with her. She’s already been to a Meet & Greet, where she loved the attention and was very friendly to strangers, but when she’s at home, Alice will let out a short bark to warn us when something is outside. This loving little girl will be a wonderful friend for someone.

YellowstoneYellowstone -- Adopted and living in Bakersfield
Age
: 1 3/4 Sex: M Color: Fawn brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Yellowstone is full of fun puppy energy, but sleeps like an adult dog. He'll curl up anywhere, even on the hard kitchen floor while he's waitiing for dinner. He was a pro at being a pet right away - playing with toys and cockroaching almost the first night. And still everyday he learns new retired greyhound skills. He gets on well with his foster siblings, both canine and feline, and keeps his foster moms smiling with his wildly wagging tail and slobbery kisses. Getting attention is his favorite activity (besides eating). You should see how his back leg goes up almost mechanically in response to a belly-rub. What a great addition to a family he will be!

RalphRalph -- Adopted and living in Upland
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Ralph is great with steps, tile and taking goodies from our hands. He is a big, tall boy. He does great on his walks. His classic greyhound looks and size have made him the hit of the neighborhood when he goes for his evening walks. He loves eating and playing with stuffies. He is living with three doggie siblings between 10 and 40 pounds without any problems. He absolutely loves being with his people and gets so happy when we come home after being away.

GidgetGidget -- Adopted and living in Granada Hills
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Gidget is one sweet lady! She is doing extremely well living with another greyhound and five cats. She was curious about the cats at first, but one good swipe on the nose and now she watches them from a distance or just ignores them. She has not had one accident in the house and stands by the sliding back door when she wants to go out. She is very people-oriented, extremely affectionate and even licks your nose! She is learning quickly and is very correctable because she wants to please. She has discovered that she can reach things that smell good on the counter. She is learning to play with her toys and her greyhound friend is teaching her how to frolic and wrestle. She is very curious and will follow you into any room with no hesitation and then thoroughly smells everything in it. She is an absolutely perfect lady on the leash. She has a met few other dogs on walks, both big and small, and is friendly to all of them. She wants to be in whatever room the people are in, preferably laying on the couch, with her head in your lap!

HarrietHarriet --Adopted and living in Jamul
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: White/Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Workable

Harriett is an affectionate, sweet, happy, big girl with floppy ears. She rarely lies down without making deep grunts in the process. She makes a funny noice when she drinks, too. She is learning to play with toys, and when a toy squeaks her ears stand up straight. She isn't interested in running around the yard in play with the two greyhounds in her foster pack, although she will chase the visiting possum. She gets along well with the other greyhounds, rides well in the car, and loves walks. She is a bit submissive with her humans as she is learning how to be a pet. She is a girl with a bad case of happy tail. Even if asleep, when we walk by her she will wag that tail. She gets excited easily with her humans and wants to please. She is a sweetheart.

CatherineCatherine --Adopted and living in La Crescenta
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Dark brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/No

Catherine is on the petite side and is cute and sweet. She is a little shy and reserved at first but warms up to people pretty quickly. She lives with another greyhound and a lab and gets along well with both. Catherine is a reminder of how fast greyhounds can run, even if it is in small circles in a little yard. If you walk Catherine on the leash she is very well mannered; but if a cat or small animal runs by you, you better hold on, so she needs a cat-free environment. She somehow already knew about using a dog door and was immediately house trained. She loves to carry her toys around and has several nearby at all times. She has gotten along famously with her foster pack from day one and should be a great addition for anyone who has other greyhounds or other dogs.

MindenMinden -- Adopted and living in Northridge
Age
: 3 Sex: F Color: Fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Yes

Minden, or  Mindy, is one of three broken-leg dogs taken in at the May Homecoming. Her recovery is going very well; her splint should be removed permanently in early June. She does very well with all the cats in her foster home and also gets along with the greyhound (Ginny) and Dalmatian.

She wants to play with the Dalmatian, but mom has to step in and spoil the fun until the vet gives the OK for more activity. If she has been sleeping in another room and comes into a room where there are people, she has a huge grin on her face, and keeps grinning for several minutes.

EthelEthel -- Adopted and living in Loma Linda
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: White/black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/No

Ethel is a calm and loving little lady who gives kisses to her foster parents or anyone else she gets to know.  She does well when meeting humans of all ages and sizes. She mastered the dog door in two days with never an accident in the house. She does well with tile floors and mirrors, but she’s still working to master stairs. Shas been a very quick learner on everything we have asked of her. She shows great interest in counter surfing, but her manners are improving every day. She fit in well from day one with her foster pack of another greyhound and a cattle dog. They even love to share beds. She loves to go on walks every day and ride in the car where she is the first to lay down. She is just now playing with squeaky toys and loves to take them to bed with her. We have nicknamed her "Gypsy Rose" since her color and marking make her look like a little gypsy. She should do well as an only dog.

MaynardMaynard -- Adopted and living in Pasadena
Age: 5 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Yes/Workable

Maynard is a very large and lovable boy. He loves to take naps and will lie down practically anywhere that his foster mom and dad are to be near them. He is extremely loving and friendly, and likes to rest his head on your arm or lap to be petted. Maynard has an almost puppy-like excitement about life. He gets excited to go outside and run around a bit in the yard, but soon he's right back inside for more relaxing. He has not yet developed an appreciation for toys, but does love his treats and chewies. Maynard is a very good boy in the house. He zips up and down the stairs with ease. He knows to run to the back door when it is time for a bathroom break. Maynard gets along wonderfully with his foster siblings: two greyhounds and an Italian Greyhound. He does very well with sharing attention and dog beds. Maynard would also do equally well in a home as an only dog, since he loves human attention and affection and is able to be independent from the pack.
